Loading Garageband Samples into EXS24

Loading Garageband Samples into EXS24

2004-02-14 by soundorphanage

Has anyone else attempted to load the .exs instruments from garageband into
the EXS24. It says they are invalid files. I have had success in using other
exs instruments in Garageband but not the reverse. The 200MB piano and 50
to 60MB basses are incredible! I just wondered if maybe there was a way to
sector edit the files or something to make them work. I have tried looking at
them with a Hex editor and the end of the file is unique compared to every
other exs instrument. Hopefully Logic Pro will load them.

Yes I know I could rebuild the instruments, because the samples are there
and pretty well documented inside. Just find that to be very slow.

Thanks
Chris

I found this:
Future versions of Logic Pro will also include support for enhanced
Apple Loops, the powerful open-standard file format for real-time
matching of audio loops and sound effects. The Apple Loops format
offers richer information than standard audio files, so users can
quickly find a loop by instrument, genre or mood. Future versions of
Logic Pro will be able to import MIDI performance and channel strip
configuration data contained in the new software instrument form of
Apple Loops. These special files can be used either as audio loops or
software instrument MIDI loops, providing unprecedented flexibility
for loop-based composition. With Apple Loops support, future versions
of Logic Pro will easily import projects from GarageBand.....

But no mention of the .exs instruments.
It makes sense for Logic Pro to (eventually) be able to have this
compatibility.

Anyone else.....?

Regards - Colin
