Problems with Sample Cell File Conversion

Problems with Sample Cell File Conversion

2004-02-17 by jltfour

Emagic literature says that EXS will play Sample Cell files, but
the mappings that result from opening a Sample Cell bank file in
EXS are far from acceptable. Discovering this, I purchased
Translator from Chicken Systems. For the past month I have
been back and forth with support there, and they've been very
helpful. They even sent me a beta version of their latest
Translator build. Unfortunately, even with the beta, I have yet to
translate a bank that opens in EXS on my desktop as it does in
Sample Cell.
I 've sent stuffed files that I have translated to Chicken Systems,
and they tell me they are able to open the files on their desktop in
EXS.
I'm brand new to EXS, and Logic so I 'm probably overlooking
something. My questions: What would cause the translated files
to not see midi input at all on my desktop? All other EXS files
open and play as they should, and all other EXS files show midi
input on the keyboard in the edit window. The mappings in the
edit window of the translated files are correct, and the names of
the samples are all correct. The velocity switchings are all
correct. I have the ESB TDM bridge, but am opening EXS on the
DTDM side.
Would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks,

Jack, I found a couple things upon closer observation, although I was able
to load both sets of translated files you sent me no problem in both OS9
and OSX.

(It's not that it's not receiving MIDI, the lacking of notes showing on the
keys in the editor isn't indicative of MIDI reception.)

Are you opening these in OSX or OS9?
Are you getting a "not found" message upon loading the file via the popup
menu? If so, EXS-24 sometimes just doesn't load anything into the
instrument even though it shows in the interface, the editor shows the
files, and plenty of samples were loadable.

Give us a call tomorrow anytime when you are in front of it, let's take
another stab at it.
