EXS24 - Multi-channel use?

EXS24 - Multi-channel use?

2004-02-19 by nichellyeruk

I have recently purchased the Wizoo miXtended drum kit sample CD's
(and jolly fine they are too) but I am uncertain how best to use the
multi-channel capabilities. At the moment they are set up to output
the individual drum sounds through the main track channel, the
overhead sounds through "Outputs 3-4" (routed to my Aux 1) and the
room sounds to "Outputs 5-6" (my Aux 2). I have got 6 separate MIDI
lines in a folder, the folder is placed on a track with the EXS24 as
the plug-in, so I have *one* instance open.

However, what this means is that I can't separately EQ / reverb or
whatever the kick, snare, toms or whatever. Is there any way of doing
this other than:

(1) creating 6 separate instances of the multi-channel EXS; or

(2) editing the "instrument" such that the relevant zones are output
to different streams (e.g. kick to 1-2, snare to 3-4, kick overhead
to 11-12, snare overhead to 13-14 etcÂ…until I run out of outputs) ??

If I do (1) then will it matter if I send *all* of the overhead and
room outputs to the same aux (in which case they would have a
different EQ or whatever) (the answer to this may be "use your ears
and find out" !)

If I do (2), how can I change / automate track volume etc (i.e. I
suddenly want the kick louder than the snare, or vice versa??

Thanks all

Nic

2) is the way to go IMO. That's what I do.

To automate is simple - you automate the volume of the AUX object you routed
the audio to -- BTW it will make life easier if you name your AUX objects while
you are at it - eg if you route Snare to AUX 2 then rename it Snare and it
will appear labelled snare in the mixer and the arrange page.

Just apply volume automation to that object same as you would an audio track.
