In addition to what Sascha suggested, are you absolutely sure you 
have EXS virtual memory (disk streaming) turned on? It's easy to just 
think you do - I know from previous personal embarrassments!

Also, I'd make sure you have the latest version of the Bosendorfer NI 
player. Older versions of NI's sampler family had big problems on 
Macs. They've since sorted them out, but it might be worth taking 
that VI out of your system to see whether it's the culprit.

Thanks, Nick, but yes, VM is definitely on. And I'm using the PMI Bose as 
an EXS instrument (converted from Giga originally), not the NI player. I've 
had problems with other large instruments besides the piano, so I think 
it's a system problem---and I'm leaning toward believing it is just poor 
disk reading. Are you getting good performance with your drive settings at 
something other than "slow?"
