Native EXS24 CD

Native EXS24 CD

2001-05-30 by Mark_L_Holloway@hotmail.com

Does anyone know if companies like Ilio are making EXS24 CDs? I get
nervous when looking to spend $200 on an Akai CD and not knowing if
it will import very well. I know EXS isn't the only sampler with
this problem, but it still stinks. Ilio makes such great CDs.

Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,
Does anyone know if companies like Ilio are making EXS24 CDs? I get
nervous when looking to spend $200 on an Akai CD and not knowing if
it will import very well. I know EXS isn't the only sampler with
this problem, but it still stinks. Ilio makes such great CDs.
I do know that EastWest (www.soundsonline.com) do. I believe that only a
few titles are available from them in exs-24 format. Ilio are aware of the
exs-24 at the very least. However, you may want to give them a call in
regards to if they have exs-specific CD Roms. I agree with you that their
quality is second to none. I just ordered the Kirk Hunter Virtuoso String
Library in E-mu format (for my E-5000 Ultra). It is excellent, especially
in terms of playability. Lots of real-time control for expressive playing
without having to set up special sequence arrangements as in some other
libraries I have tried.

If it were me, I would not get an exs-24 native format CD Rom unless it was
something like drums where you need less programming. From the little that
I have dug into the exs-24, it is not as powerful synthesis-wise as my
E-5000 Ultra (nor would I expect it to be - but maybe in future versions).
AFAIK, CDXtract and Translator both now translate directly to exs-24
formats. I would spend the money on getting a conversion tool (these will
convert parameters and not only samples) to help convert your libraries to
exs-24.

Akai format seems to be the most universal and, if you don't have another
sampler, I would probably go with that. However, I understand your desire
to get a native version that you don't need to convert or do any extra work
with.

HTH,
Fernando

Wouldn't the fact that Ilio bundled a demo with EXS point to their plans
to support the format ?

I asked them that directly recently, and they said they were satisfied with
the import options and had no plans to create native EXS24 disks. Bummer.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
