EXS 24 Logic Sampler Users Group

I've been running Logic Pro 6.4.3 on my Dual 1GHZ Quicksilver under OS 
9.2.2 & OS X.3.4,5,6 quite happily for some months. Over time I've  
added a whole bunch of new EXS Library. I keep it all on a 160GB 
internal 7200 rpm ATA drive. It's about half full.

Problem I'm having is that under OS X all the audio files read, scan 
and play perfectly. Under OS 9 only about half of the 120000 individual 
samples are actually recognised by the project manager and when I try 
to load an EXS instrument the samples plays white noise and digital 
hash etc.....

I did recently defragment the disk under OS X using Nortons Speed Disk 
and I think this was the beginning of the problems - but strange that 
it all works great under OS X but not under OS 9.

Under OS 9 when I try to point the PM at a specific audio file that the 
EXS is having problems with it simply asks me "what kind of file is 
this". But when I load the EXS instrument that points to that sample I 
get no protest from the EXS but all I hear is the aforementioned noise.

Under OS 9 I've tried Nortons disk doctor, Tech Tools Pro & Disk 
Warrior to fix it but no go. Also rebuilt the desktop.

Help on this would be much appreciated.

Hi Paul,

I'm pretty sure the problem is that some of your samples are 16-bit (which your OS 9 
version has no trouble with) and some are 24-bit (which your OS 9 version is reading as 
16-bit, consequently playing back white noise)

I can't remember whether there's a way to switch this in the OS 9 version of EXS, but I 
gather that EXS is a bit dicey playing back 24-bit samples anyway. (See earlier discussions 
about the PMI Old Lady piano)
