Installing Spectrasonics GC discs

Installing Spectrasonics GC discs

2005-01-05 by Shane Fawkes

Hi all,

I'm feeling a little sheepish asking this, but hope someone can help me
through this process of installing my Retrofunk & Backbeat GC disks. I
had them installed on my old machine and wanted to do a complete fresh
install of everything on my new computer, but I can't fully install
either of these 2 sets. The only solace I can take is in the fact that
the spectrasonics tech rep couldn't answer/solve it for me either.

I've been able to install/convert the AKAI Data discs (via
EXS>OPTIONS>AKAI CONVERT function), and copied the Groove Control
sequences, but have not been able to extract/create any of the .EXS
files. I initially installed those on my old system with no problems
(from what I can recall) years ago. The only major difference I can
think of is that would have been with Logic 5.x (maybe even 4?) on an
OS9.x system and I'm now running 6.4.3 on OS 10.3.7. My new machine
doesn't even have OS9 installed on it to try that route.
Any suggestions for creating my .EXS files would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
	Shane

Your best option is to use CDXtract. (http://www.cdxtract.com)
This is an app which will extract all the data from the sampler
disks, and will create .exs files (instruments) from the original
Akai disks.

Give Chicken Systems a call (320-235-9798) - we likely can sort it out for you.

Just use the Akai Convert option; I think it's under Options in the
spaceship interface - just like the old one.

Shane, I show that you bought Translator a while ago - use that and will
give better and more flexible results than the EXS native conversion. It
really is the best option. If you need help using it, just give CS a call.
