Read the bit in the exs manual on converting SF2 files...

OK, the soundfont shows up in the folder but by selecting it I get:
"Insufficient access privileges for operation
Result code= -5000"

Thanks for assistance

Copied from a CD and still writeprotected?
Activate the file, hit [cmd]-I to get the file info and set the
permissions to a more liberal state (everything for everyone or so ;)

It's likely that this file came from a CD and OSX changes the file
permissions when you copied it. The result code -5000 is an OSX
error code, not a Logic error. To solve this problem, open the
terminal and do a "chmod 644" on this file. Email me if you don't
know how to do that and I will give you step by step instructions.

I found a free soundfont online with the suffix "sfpack".
When I put it in the Sampler Instruments folder, the EXS wouldn't "see"
it.
I changed the suffix to sf2 and the EXS could "see" it but not open it.
Is this "sfpack" format compatible?

thanks
tom

sfPack (and sfArk) are freeware Windows programs to compress soundfonts. As far as I know, there's nothing for OSX (or any other Mac
OS) dealing with them. So you need a Windoze box to extract them to SF2.

Before I answer - so your name is Thomas Hammer? Ha! Go to hammersound.net
- probably the most significant soundfont site on the Web, run by a guy
named Thomas Hammer. Small world!

You have to "unpack" it with a program called SFPack. You can get it on
hammersound.net, look for it in the FAQ. it is Windows only though - if you
only have a Mac (horrors!) send it to me or refer the link to me and I'll
decompress it for you.

SFPack and another related one were compression utilities that seemed to be
necessary at the time, before RAR and other ones came out that did a more
effective job at compression than ZIP. They are obsolete now, and I wish
the sites would eliminate .sfpack files and reload them as .rar.

There is a utility for sfark files:

sfArkXT for OS X, AFAIK available at http://melodymachine.com

But AFAIK there is no way to handle sfpack files on the Mac.

Tiger, friends..
still some unfinished business here, soundfonts, they are available, usable via simple synth:
http://pete.yandell.com/links/
Oha, it doesn't work in Logic7 (sic!), so to save time, I'm rerecording the files in audio hijack,
a relive by the way,
http://www.rogueamoeba.com/audiohijack/
dragging them back into Logic, to make things happen, how? who cares

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
