Unable To Play EXS24 Instruments Installed With EXS24(Logic 7.01)

Unable To Play EXS24 Instruments Installed With EXS24(Logic 7.01)

2005-05-04 by arthur perkins

Hi,

I need help with the following problem:

I created an alias to the sampler instruments folder
and placed it where the sampler instruments folder
normally resides in the main Logic Pro folder. The
alias points to an external firewire drive where I
installed all the purchased exs24 instruments and
associated samples.

I can load and play any exs24 instrument existing on
the external drive but when I try to load any of the
instruments installed and supplied with Logic Pro,
nothing happens.

My question: is this caused by the fact that the alias
for the sampler folder points to the external drive
and the Logic supplied instruments reside on the main
drive and not the external drive? If so, can I move
the Logic supplied instruments to the external drive?
What would the procedure be?

As a side note, I have ExsManager and am wondering if
this can all be solved by running the program to
re-link the instruments and files. But that brings up
another question: can ExsManager be run over more than
one drive at a time, specifically the configuration I
mentioned above?

thanks,

Arthur

Since Logic 7, this is no longer the place for the sampler instrument
folder(s). One needs to be in the global library - application support
- Logic folder (for the factory instruments). And any non factory
instruments need to be in a sampler instruments folder in the user -
library - application support - Logic folder. Alias' should work fine,
once you have installed them in these proper locations.

I don't think that is your problem. It sounds like it's just a simple
geography problem.

Yes. I do it all the time. i have my samples on a different drive than
my sampler instruments.

Hi,

I moved the alias as you suggested but still cannot
load any instruments in the factory or garageband
installed folders.

The odd thing is, when I removed the alias the first
time, I could load any of the factory or garageband
instruments.

Hmmm, very strange. What happens exactly when you select the
instrument? Does the coloured beachball spin at all, or what?

The other thing is, maybe you've exceeded the sampler instrument limit.
I remember I had this problem temporarily when I was just getting my
head around the new L7 install. I had redundant aliases pointing to my
old Logic Pro 6 folder that duplicated the user sampler instruments. It
was a mess until I figured it out; but I do remember the bottom
instruments not being accessible. So check if you are reaching the
maximum. I forget what the exact amount is...... maybe someone can post
the magic number?

Hi,

When I select an instrument from the Factory or
Garageband folders, nothing happens. Yet if I select
an instrument from the external firewire drive, it
loads. I thought if I hit the limit(I think it's
10,000 exs instruments total, I could be wrong), that
no instruments could be loaded regardless of their
location.

The last time I ran EXSManager, it recorded over
13,000 instruments between the factory, garageband,
and the external drive. I hope Apple is working on
blowing away the limit for a future enhancement
because if that is the problem, it needs to be blown
away.

thanks,

Arthur

No, it's the instruments beyond the magic number that don't load. And
the Factory and GarageBand ones are the last in the list.

Well, then that's it. That's definitely the problem.

That figures. Does anyone know if Apple plans to
address this in a future update of the program?
Otherwise, I guess I'll have to swap out the
instruments I don't need when working on a project and
that is going to be a major pain in the ass!

Thanks for the info,

Arthur
