EXS-24 conversion

EXS-24 conversion

2001-07-02 by Anders Elverhøy

Hi all!

I'm a longtime LUG member, but fairly new to this list.
Over a period of time I have registered on this list (and the lug) that
quite a few people wishes conversions of more formats e.g Roland.
I think this list would be ideal to say to Emagic (politely) that we need
some more formats converted please.
Shall we set up a poll and maybe ask Joeri if he wants to be the messenger
of an united exs-list wish?
If we are enough we might get this throug.

After the terrific success of the plug-in deal and Joeri's idea of more
company people on this list, this could maybe be the way to show we are on
topic and can get some wishes fulfilled.
As I'm a Norwegian, please bare over with any almost English phrases.

Anyone?

@nders

Does anyone know the URL of the Logic users site where Wishes are compiled
and sent to Emagic? I've been there before but can't find it. -Jer

Yeah, http://www.belway.com/logic/
The problem is: I'm administrator of that site and as you'll see: it hasn't
been updated in ages. I'll get back in touch with some folks I was going to
work something out with to make things happen automatically.

So, as Anders said, if this list can work out a nice list with "priority
items" for the EXS and write that in a letter, I'll make sure it is given to
the right people and I'll try to get a reply too.

Bye,
Joeri

Thanks Joeri !! I'll start.

Priority list for EXS24:
1 - Native sample import from Roland format
2 - Multiple outs

Feel free to add to this list folks.

Add this:

Inverse velocity for zones so that a soft piano note and a hard piano note
can be crossfaded into each other on the same key through velocity/attack.

Support for the audio trigger points!!!

Something like a bus allocation for Groups and Zones would be nice, so you
could treat samples from the same instrument differently with FX. This would
not be saved with the instrument however. It would be saved with the song's
settings. Nothing would annoy me more than to have such a setting operating
according to my last song by default. It should not be assigned by default
when I open a new instrument. Hope that's clear.

I'm sure I'll think of more, but if Emagic wants to stay ahead of Halion,
they'll hearken to the concerns of their existing users. Rubber Chicken
Software is really good at that. I wish more companies would follow suit
(still waiting for that Mac version of Translator though, guys ;-) -Jer

Nice to see you're sending in your wishes. I suggest the following: work out a
top 5 on the list, make a well-structured letter, once it's finished send it to
me and I'll deliver it to the developers. In the meanwhile, I'll check whether
the developers have the time to read, and if possible, reply to it. I'm sorry but
I don't have the time to make the letter etc... the LUG is taking all of my
"spare time" already.

An addition to my previous mail: if you can't work out a top 5 (e.g. some
people prefer Emu support over Kurzweil support or over Roland support), then
make a poll (here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/exs-users/polls) and let the
poll decide what's more important.

The developers already have more than enough things to do to make sure 5.0 is
released in time, so I don't think any "extra" features will be added, but it
never hurts if they know what our priorities and maybe... if we're very lucky,
they might be able to find the time to add a little extra anyway... but I
wouldn't count on it.

Ad this:

- Crossfading for different zones
- Drag and drop of zones and samples (from instrumenteditor to
instrumenteditor and within the 'piano bars' at the top of the instrument
editor)
- a way of not having to scan all the instrument every time something has
changed in the Finder (apple). Now it scans all the instruments (even when
I've been in Sounddiver) which can take a minute in my case (30 gig of
samples and instruments)

thanks

New poll - don't vote yet!!

2001-07-03 by Colin Shapiro

Hi folks,

I've created a new MULTIPLE CHOICE poll as Joeri suggested.
However, if I edit the poll, existing votes are lost. So.....

*DON'T VOTE YET*

Please respond to this list with any other wishes and I'll add them
in the next 2 days - then we can all vote.

So far I've collected:
1 More sample conversion (see other poll)
2 Multiple outs & separate bus allocation
3 Velocity crossfades between layers
4 Additional modulation routings, or modulation-matrix
5 Drag and drop of zones and samples
6 Bypass scan of all the instruments when loading

Let's use this opportunity.

Regards - Colin

User defined folder for exs-instrument search (not the hole drive) and the
EXS should search the samples in the instrument folder first.

I always use CDxtract for conversion and getting good results.
I used it before for my Akai S6000 (anyone wanna buy :-))

Poll update - vote now

2001-07-04 by Colin Shapiro

It seems that 31 people have already voted in the poll I set up so I
can't change or update now without losing the votes already cast.

So.....I'll set up a second poll tomorrow if there are enough extra choices.
If you haven't voted yet go here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/exs-users/polls
and select the link to: Top wishlist features for EXS24

You can vote for MORE THAN ONE item.

I already received:

>User defined folder for exs-instrument search (not the hole drive) and the
>EXS should search the samples in the instrument folder first.

I'll add it to the new poll.

Regards - Colin

Re: Poll update - vote now

Colin,

My wish list is priority order is:

1. Ability to easily change a given parameter for all selected zones or
groups at one time, e.g. to select several zones by clicking on the
bars in the keyboard window and then assigning them all to the same
group at once.

2. Ability to switch and/or crossfade between waveforms based on Midi
events other than velocity, e.g. to switch between normal and sustain
piano samples by holding down the sustain pedal.

3. Key note cross-fades between groups, e.g. cross-fading between a
cello group and a viola group as you move up the keyboard.

4. 4-time parameter, 3-level parameter amplitude envelopes a la Roland.

Regards,
James

2nd Poll open

2001-07-06 by Colin Shapiro

Hi gang,

I've opened the second poll of suggestions posted to this list.
Again, it's MULTIPLE choice - vote for as many options as you like
(within reason).

I hope I've managed to condense all the wishes into understandable
sentences. If I have time, I'll copy all the original posts into one
e-mail and forward it to Joeri to send to Emagic along with the poll
results (hope that's okay).

No more please....... I've got to get back to work now.......writing
music! :-)

Regards and thanks for all the input- Colin
