Going further, the EXS instruments can be anywhere as well, but they
must be "connected" to the Sample Instruments folder via an alias.
For example, if your .exs files are in a folder called "PMI" on a
drive other then your boot drive, make an alias of that folder, then
move that alias in the Sampler Instruments folder. The folder will
then show up in the EXS popup menu.
That way, the EXS can find any file anywhere on your system, without
putting any actual data in the Sampler Instruments folder.
What I do is I have an alias to the Sample Instruments on my desktop,
and I just drag fodler aliases in and out of it at will. I also have
a Sampler Instruments (disabled) alias so I can control how many
things exist on the popup menu, I just shuttle the aliases back and
forth as needed.
