PMI iPianos and my EXS24mkII

Hello,

My gear: Power Book, 1.25GHz, 1.5GB RAM, Logic Pro 6.4.

I bought the PMI iPianos for the Garage Band because I need to have some
sort of light acoustic pianos and PMI indicated that the pianos can be used
with the EXS sampler. These pianos are a compilation of 5 pianos, 2 or
3-layers, approximately 500MB, so they are not so big compared with other
pianos of these days.

When I play the pianos in the EXS, their loading time is longer and the
notes tend to have a little latency some times. Also, some notes, especially
high notes, cut their release time, as if the sustain pedal were depressed.
In the other hand, playing the SAME pianos in the Garage Band is delightful.
The sound is solid and better than the piano instruments included in the
program (obviously, in this sonic range).

I tend to think that this problem is due to the programming logistic for the
Garage Band, and not because the EXS is not capable of handling this kind of
sampled instrument, which I sincerely doubt. If the EXS were not capable of
handling this, what could happened if I would like to have a 18GB piano like
the Black Grand from Big Fish Audio, which I would like to buy, depending on
the comments I receive here from you.

Could anyone explain what is happening here, and if the EXS can handle big
sampled instruments, please? Thank you very much.

I am completely unfamiliar with the iPianos and garage
band. But I can say that I use the larger PMI pianos
in EXS without any of the probelms you mention. The
load time, while long, is no longer than other large
instruments. I have some SampleTekk pianos that have
to be split up into 3 seperate EXS instruments because
they are so large. But they too work fine once loaded.

Same here. No problems with very large pianos from PMI, SampleTekk,
Vintech or Art Vista. This is all within Logic Pro 7, though. Not
much familiarity with Garage Band.
