7.2 quest

7.2 quest

2006-10-04 by gary pozner

Hey Colin,
Quick question. Do you find your 7.2.1 to be backwards compatible? Ie
can you load a Logic 6 ASIO song into 7.2.1(meaning convert from ASIO to
Audio Units)??

Hi Gary,

In as much as it's ever compatible.....
There is obviously a big impediment with old songs from OS9 + ASIO as
they all used VST plugins. One has to have an OSX-VST version of each
plugin, plus you need to use the VST to AU wrapper by FXpansion. No
guarantees that the settings will load - ever (since v6.x).

If there are no 3rd party plugs, then it should work okay.

* No Colin I am sorry this was not a work around question. I am
sorry you misunderstood me. This was a question in relation to you
saying 7.2 is the most stable version. So let me put this out to
everyone. Can anyone load Logic 6 or older ASIO songs into their 7.2
without 7.2 crashing? I have tried & tried. I have to load them into 7.0
and then load the 7.0 song into 7.2. Anyone with a different
experience.

Thanks
Gary

Yep, I've done this recently. Just got an old HD of archives from a friend to open and look
at, there is a mixture of old (pre osx/ASIO) Logic 6 files and osx logic 6 files. I can open
them all, but the plugins don't neccessarily load. This is on a PB 15" 1.5 /OSX 10.4.8 LP
7.2.3 if that would make any difference...

Hi Gary,
Sorry for the confusion.....

Yes - I load my old ASIO songs in Logic 7.2.1 easily with no
problems. I just tried on about 5 or 6 songs and they all work fine.
No crashes - no hassles.

Are you using 7.2.1 or just 7.2 ? Perhaps 7.2.1 is better?

I mentioned plugins before, because I have had problems getting songs
to translate properly. Also, I recall an issue with songs that used
Absynth v2 in ASIO songs. For some reason, the Absytnth 2 AU caused
crashes - never completely resolved that one.....

Regards - Colin

Well here lies the rub, and maybe there is something in the water in
this part of NYC, but we have 5 macs(2 G4's both dual 887, one g5 dual
2.5, and 2 powerbooks )
4(one with Logic 7.0) with Logic 7.2.3 and OSX 10.4.8 and none can take
an Logic file that was created in OS 9 as an asio file(specifically
Logic 6.4 files) and open them without crashing. Doesn't matter if they
have VST plugins or not. We have to open them in 7.0 and then into
7.2.3. When I spoke to a Logic "genius" about this, I was told that a
complete new system install would fix this. We went thru this and
nothing changed. We are now almost done converting the files. But the
fact that this is consistent to our systems and not to yours is a
question in itself
