EXS 24 Single Programs To Multi's

2006-11-27 by Bob

Message posted by Bob <code__blue@...>:

I am in the process of moving some of my hardware sample libraries over to
the EXS 24. On my hardware sampler I had for example 4 different programs
all assigned to the same midi channel so it would have the effect of being a
multi instrument as each instrument is split across the keys where the other
one ends.
Now that I have converterted to the EXS24 I would have to have 4 EXS24's up
to get the same effect. Is there a way that I could work from one "keyboard
so to speak" so I wouldn't have to switch between 1-4? Or is there a easy
way to Group EX24 programs together without having to go thru the whole
mapping everything out again. A merge function?
Cheers
Bob

Hi Bob
This is where the environment steps in...
The easiest way is to use 4 exs24s, create a midi instrument and connect it to a chain of
three transformers, with these you can split different keys to different exs24s (by note.)
Midi Instrument connects to transformer A which splits the midi note (say <= X) the top
output goes to an exs24 (1) and the other to another transformer (B) which splits again
(say <= Y) again one output goes to an exs24 (2) and the other to another transformer (C)
which splits (say <= Z) and send each output to an exs24 (3&4), this should give you;

EXS24 1 <= X < EXS24 2 <= Y <  EXS24 3 <= Z < EXS24 4

This will give you your keyboard splits. I know this may seem convoluted but you only
need do it once, you can save a default template in your autoload and adjust it according
to your needs when required. There is a lot of other things you can do in this way and
create complex velocity, note and mod wheel splits accross various instrument plugins.

Hope this helps, Mike

Mike Taylor gave you one way, but another is simply to create a new
program in the editor, then open the editors for all four programs
you want to combine. Then Select All in each of the four and paste
everything into the new program. Set the zone limit for each Group
that gets created, save the new combined program, and you're done.

You can also switch between the four (or five, or 25) Groups using
keyswitches, controllers, velocity, or anything else just by setting
the zone parameters.

Nick Batzdorf's suggestion is great for simple splits.

If, in addition, you want to layer multiple programs easily, take a
look at CDXtract:
http://www.cdxtract.com/cdxtract.php
(there's a demo too)

This is a great app which allows you to convert to EXS24 from sampler
formats/CD-ROM's as well as combine programs.

Don't you forget that Keymap from [http://www.redmatica.com/] is intended to greatly simplify such re-assemblies: maybe you should wait for a few days or weeks...

Hmmm
I wish Andrea from Redmatica would tell us when Keymap will be ready.
I've been waiting for ages......
