Ah, thanks! It seems this is exactly what is missing in EXS24 (and
much more).
Here's a suggestion: older samplers (I'm a former Roland sampler
user) had an alternate loop option, i.e. the lopp is played back
forward, then backwards, then forward and so on. AFAIK no software
sampler allows for this, though often a good loop can be achieved
this way when it's difficult to get a good loop with the standard
forward-only method. This could be integrated into Keymap. I know
CDXtract can "unroll" alternate loops in existing samples, but it
cannot create new ones.
Another comment: browsing through the user's guide I found the
following sentence: "Keymap is also not a plugin, and you can’t place
it in a Logic channel strip" (page 5). It's probably not of much
practical use, but this actually might be possible using Jack:
