MIDI messages to EXS24

2007-01-19 by Denis Clohessy

Message posted by Denis Clohessy <denis.clohessy@...>:

Hi,

I'm trying to assign control over the EXS24 ENV2 (Amp) attack to one of the
MIDI faders on my keyboard so I can change it as I play. However I can't
figure out which MIDI number the EXS attack might have been allocated? Can
the EXS24 in fact accept MIDI commands to make parameter changes? Or is this
only do-able through drawing in the automation?

Thanks,
Denis Clohessy

You should check the preferences in Song Settings >MIDI to see that
the 64 high-numbered Controllers are being allowed to access the EXS
or are used as standard MIDI.

WHINING WARNING
This is a real drag - it would be much better for Logic's internal
instruments not to have to rely on standard CC controllers which are
useful for other things.
Why is there not a bank of "Meta-Controllers" for internal messages?

Just downloaded the user's guide out of curiousity...
ugh, 317 pages and no table of contents, and no index??

Keymap seems to have a build-in sample editor, and EXS24's own sample
editor isn't really one of it's strong points. But I still have to
find a detailed description of Keymap's sample editor in the manual...

Chapter 5, page 175.

Ah, thanks! It seems this is exactly what is missing in EXS24 (and
much more).

Here's a suggestion: older samplers (I'm a former Roland sampler
user) had an alternate loop option, i.e. the lopp is played back
forward, then backwards, then forward and so on. AFAIK no software
sampler allows for this, though often a good loop can be achieved
this way when it's difficult to get a good loop with the standard
forward-only method. This could be integrated into Keymap. I know
CDXtract can "unroll" alternate loops in existing samples, but it
cannot create new ones.

Another comment: browsing through the user's guide I found the
following sentence: "Keymap is also not a plugin, and you can’t place
it in a Logic channel strip" (page 5). It's probably not of much
practical use, but this actually might be possible using Jack:
http://www.jackosx.com/

And, in my very humble opinion, the Keymap user's guide *really*
needs a table of contents... ;-)

I totally agree with you.
There's a second manual revision coming very soon.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
