Atmosphere will never go out of style.... you should definitely get it.
There are so many textures to pick from, it'll make your head spin!

Soundsonline.com also has a few atmospheric libraries, and you might also
want to check out sonymediasoftware.com as well, for loop libraries -- they have
a couple interesting atmosphere-based ones (ACID-ized loops will work through
Logic's loop browser, just like apple loops). There's also the Liquid Cinema
series that Jeff Rona put out, I think through MOTU's website. Break out
the credit card and start shopping!

One tip about Atmosphere: while you may find that many of the pads
have a more happy or neutral character than scary/horror, you can
make any pad creepier by playing a dissonant combination of notes,
like a dimished 5th (6 semitones), a minor 9th (13 semitones), or a
plain old minor 3rd (3 semitones). If the sound is too muddy because
the pad is very thick, simply play one of the notes an octave higher
or lower than the other.

You can make it really creepy, by dissonantly LucyTuning it.

Get the microtuning codes for Logic Pro 7 free from here:

http://lucytune.com/midi_and_keyboard/pitch_bend.html

and then choose your dissonant intervals;-)

In LucyTuning the intervals which are closest on the spiral of
fourths and fifths are more consonant than those which are separated
by more steps.

e.g. C to A# (10 steps) is much more dissonant than C to Bb (2 steps).

Therefore choose remote notes on the spiral to produce very dissonant
intervals.
