Crossfades and Cannelloni Summer Tour

Please join us for a very special VIP event featuring Redmatica software
solutions. Mr. Andrea Gozzi, founder and Technology Director from Redmatica
headquarters (all the way from Italy!) will be in attendance at San
Francisco\ufffds favorite techno-geek refuge, ROBOTSPEAK to demonstrate
Redmatica\ufffds award-winning products.

Redmatica products are ideal companions to any virtual samplers on the Mac
platform, including Native Instruments Kontakt, Digidesign Structure,
Steinberg Halion, and Motu MachFive. Never before has the management and
construction of instruments banks been so creative and easy. The obstacles
have been removed!

If you\ufffdre an Apple Logic user, these products will also interest you
especially now that Logic Pro 8/Studio and Redmatica products are seamlessly
integrated. It bears mentioning that Redmatica and Apple worked closely on
this integration\ufffdso closely that Redmatica\ufffds products are mentioned in the
Logic operators manual\ufffd no easy feat.

[EXS] Vienna Instruments-Wow!

2008-07-27 by Sean McCoy

I'm very late to the party on this, but thanks to the
about-to-expire-too-good-to-refuse upgrade offer from Vienna, I
upgraded from my variety of Horizon Series EXS24 sample sets to the
Special Edition and SE Extended version. I'm now kicking myself for
taking so long to make the change. It's a slick and intuitive
interface, every function that was previously part of the EXS24
programming is streamlined and efficient, and many things that I
would previously avoid altogether (or at least dread) are now a piece
of cake. Having all the string articulations on a single track will
make score creation much easier. This is one impressive piece of software.

I haven't completely torture-tested it yet, but it appears by way of
the Activity Monitor that the Vienna Instrument uses its own shell of
sorts, and adding more instruments has very little effect on the
amount of memory Logic is using. As I'm still on OSX.4.11, Logic
7.2.3 and a G5, I'm sure there is still a 3.5 GB limitation on a
single program, but I'm wondering if Vienna can load that much
independently of Logic. Has anybody tested this?

On that note, I caught on the Vienna Forum that people using the
Horizon Series are having major problems with the VSL Performance
Tool and Logic 8. Any corroborators?

But you're using that with Vienna Instruments, not EXS24, correct?

Hi Sean,

If I recall correctly, the Perf tool does *work* in Logic 8 - you
just can't edit. When you install Logic 8 you should keep Logic 7 on
your system (it does this by default). Then you can use v7 to edit
Perf tool stuff which you can then use in v8 (yes....pain in the
butt...)
Bear in mind that you don't need the Perf tool for Vienna Instruments
(VI), only for your EXS24 Horizon stuff (which you may as well keep)

Another reason to keep Logic 7 is if you have old songs made pre
Logic 5, you can't open them in v8 - you have to open them in v7,
re-save etc.

VI is really great. You should also get the free download of Vienna
Ensemble v2 - also extremely useful.

Enjoy......

Regards - Colin

Right, and the legato instruments work so much better in Vienna
Instruments I'm ulikely to ever use them from EXS again, much less
need to edit the tool. Good to know it is at least accessible,
though. At least one person on the VSL forum said it was
non-functional. I bought Logic 8 right after it came out, but have
been hesitant to install it for fear of hosing up my works in
progress. But I think the inevitable has finally arrived. Just need
to make a new clone first!

I'll check it out, though I really like having each instrument on its
own Arrange track (especially for score purposes), and VI doesn't hog
too much memory. What advantages are you finding to using Ensemble?

Yes,
I have Appassionata play by an IAC Vienna Ensemble
The Wind, Brass and percussion are from QLSO Platinum and are played by a standalone
Kontakt 2 instrument
I lad the Vienna Ensemble and the K2 instrument at boot
When I load a song in logic it's very quick, it does not take time to pass from one song to
another !

I had some spare ADAT in and out on my Motu system

So I just put ADAT cable from to OUT on an IN, so simple solution !

You can also use Jackosx :)
