moving regions from file to file in logic 7

hey there,

i've got a particularly cranky project in logic 7 which is running so many
sampler instruments and vst programs that it's draining all my cpu and often
quitting unexpectedly. I would like to transfer certain regions and channel
strip settings from this project to a new project. What's the best way to do
this?

I've tried opening the old project, then creating a new one, then saving all
the things i want to transfer from the old project as channel strip
settings, and then dragging the selected regions from the old project to the
new one. But this is exceedingly slow, and the computer often takes minutes
going from the first project to the second. Again, sometimes when i do this
the program will quit unexpectedly and then i lose everything.

I'm running logic 7--still kinda scared of the upgrade.

Anybody got any ideas?

1. duplicate the original song file and fix up the file name
2. open the new song file and then delete what you don't want to keep.

This will probably be faster than dragging stuff between two open songs.
