high-end EXS drum kits?

high-end EXS drum kits?

2009-05-01 by JJB

Can anyone recommend some good EXS drum kits, either for $ or otherwise?
Currently I've been using one of the acoustic kits that came with logic,
along with a kit I've been sampling from my own drumset, and the Sonic
Implants Stereo Drums sound font I purchased maybe 10 years ago.

This is for playing from an electronic set (converted acoustic set with
mesh heads and triggers)

Not super-happy with anything so far although the logic kits Sonic
Implants kit are very playable (from the standpoint of does it feel like
I'm playing a real drumset).

What I want: super-tasty cymbals, crisp hats and snare, natural sounding
toms, and a nice deep kick.

Having a hard time finding anything in EXS format for sale or otherwise.

Wonder if I buy a giga kit, will it convert well?

Have you tried any of the stuff from http://www.chocolateaudio.com/
It´s nice stuff from the guy who did Scarbee's drumsamples when they had that in their catalogue.

Agreed. ChocolateAudio's "Old Funk Kit" sounds very good. I have only
used the Kontakt version though.

So I purchased and downloaded the Bonzo kit - they only had that and
the "Old Funk" kit. Since I was looking for something modern, tasty (and
Paiste), I didn't get the Old Funk kit.

I'm not too happy with the Bonzo kit in terms of playability. The sounds
are good, but in order to really use this with my electronic kit, I
would have to spend days and days reprogramming the dynamics. It doesn't
come close to any of the default Logic Kits in playability or the other
kits - Sonic Implants, the default SampleBase, and the default Yellow
Tools Independance Free kits.

It does have one thing that *nobody* else seems to have: Paiste Cymbals
& Hats - They are just the best sounding cymbals on earth and therefore,
I might have to get down and redo the dynamics on the Bonzo kit after all.
