Logic 5

2001-07-27 by Nick Gold

Who here is WAY stoked for Logic 5?! I KNOW I AM!

Kick-butt automation with a MIDI learn function so we will never have to
much around with remapping MIDI controllers to match specific plugin
parameters we want to tweak.

Multiple outputs on virtual instruments!!!

These two things alone will make Logic 5 the MOST FABOO sequencer in the
known universe! The question is now, will I get the version for OS 9, or
for OS X? I am thinking OS X, but then I will have to leave behind most of
my VST plugins no doubt... :(

I wonder if Emagic - and other vendors - will ship dual product
update installers for OS 9 & OS X. Similar to how software updates
use to be provided for 68K and PPC apps when Apple switched processor
designs.

We'll be in the same boat regarding our favorite plug-ins. I assume
the commercial vendors will ramp up to OS X compatability on equal
pace with their competitors. Will they charge an update fee? I think
that's entirely likely - and probably necessary to cover their
development costs. Will they provide dual installers? How long will
the vendors be willing to support both OS 9 and OS X versions
concurrently. Will the freeware, and shareware, apps we enjoy on OS 9
get left behind or lead the pack?

Oh, and don't overlook audio card drivers! Echo doesn't deliver too
quickly today - will they even support they're 1st generation cards
on OS X or only their 2nd generation 24/96 product line? So many
questions...and whose going to pay for all this!??! ;-)
