Non esx Question.... Please help

Non esx Question.... Please help

2001-09-09 by Jess Jackson::

Hi there, ok, I am working on the new pure silk mix album here In the uk and
I have done it in logic,

There are 22 tracks on the album but I have only gotten 18 on there so far,
its taken me all week up until now... But I was just about to add another
track into the arrangement, and I noticed that the song end position was in
the way, so I moved it further along and it wouldn¹t let me get more than
another 64 bars out of it.. So all I want is 74 mins and its only giving me
1 hr 6 mins.... How can I change this ... I thought about lowering the tempo
to get more space but that would move all the tracks out of place wouldn¹t
it?

Its probably really simple and I am over looking something , but I would be
really greatfull if somone could tell me what to do, thanks=)

Yours,

Jess Jackson::

This is probably a stupid question, but why aren't you using a Red Book
burning program like WaveBurner, Jam or a PC program that does the same
thing? All pro Red Book software can crossfade your songs. Seems like you'll
have to do this anyway if you are planning on mass CD manufacturing since
you typically need a PQ data sheet for manufacturing, but in your case
you'll have to manually insert the song start IDs instead and reburn at Red
Book standard (or does logic do this and I'm just not aware of it). I'm sure
you have good reason, but I'm curious since I run a CD manufacturing company
and don't completely understand your plan if you anticipate mass production.

Thanks,
Jer

Re: [exs] Non esx Question.... Please help

2001-09-09 by Jess Jackson::

Hi Jer,

Thank you to Dave eager by the way,

Yes I am doing it in logic because its what I write / produce and produce
songs in, ive been using logic for years but this is the first time that I
have made a track longer than an hour ;-)

I usually use Pro tools with the digidesign 888 hardware but I decided to
use logic this time...

I do use Waveburner Pro to burn my CD's , I first get a bounced track from
logic or pro tools, then I throw that over the network to the burning
computer, stick it in waveburner and ID the tracks but ive only used
waveburner about 5 times to ID Mix Cd's and ive found that the Ids don¹t
always stay to the possition that you put them... Once the CD is burnt, they
seem to be drifting so ive had to burn them a few times before getting a
good result..

Anyway, I will try the smpte code option and I will also try a new
arrangment with a longer song possition at the same tempo, and see if that¹s
possible, ... Cause I was only getting 1:06:00 out of it at 131bpm and
that¹s about 600 bars I think, but when I came home and checked on my
laptop, I can get 8 hours in sequencing on 131bpm, logic users please check,
much appreciated, thankyou very much! =-)

Sorry, I don't have a solution for you, but I do have a question for
you. WHY? Are you doing your production like this? Is it one 74 minute
song, with 22 tracks in the arrangement? I must be missing something
here.

take care,
dfloyd

To add to this question (and by the way, thanks for your prior response),
are all the pieces still mostly MIDI or are you dealing in audio only? The
only reason I can fathom for this action is to have tempo control (if you're
dealing with MIDI data) over transitions between tracks for some interesting
crossfades... These, of course, are not criticisms but only curiosities.
Yours is a very unusual approach. -Jer

Also, Jam does a really good job with ID placement, although I really like
WaveBurner for sound treatment.
