The Akai file spec and disk spec have not been completely documented, certainly not by Akai and made public. As a result, most of the different programs and samplers that read Akai disks are based on individually-written code, which means maybe 50 or so programmers have disassembled and reverse-engineered what they've seen and put together their own spec. Funky Elements has it's own peculiarities, and I'm not surprised EXS misses it. In fact, I just tried it on a number of Akai-compatible platforms and most of them miss it (including CDxtract) - they just show one partition. It's because what most engineers assume is the right way to read a disk ISN'T the best way, but the method works most of the time, but not all the time - and FE brings that out. There IS a program that will read and translate the Akai sounds on that disk... =) download the demo at www.chickensys.com/translator/download and you'll be able to view it properly, like on the Akai. That is, if you have a PC. If you have a Mac, your wait shall end shortly. (Excuse the self-plug, but I'd been waiting for this question for years...) While I'm at it, Translator fully supports many Akai's parameters, including envelopes, in it's translation. It even supports the amplitude envelope, the filter cut-off, and resonance on a per-zone basis by using the group override parameters. It took a lot of work to scale the parameters properly to make this happen. Hopefully, it's a temporary cure, as we hope Emagic in the next release brings everything down to the zone level like it should. Garth Hjelte Sampler User
