[exs] strange behaviour

[exs] strange behaviour

2001-09-11 by Tun WEBER

Dear guys,

I just had a horrible recording session!
A client came with a LAMP 4.6.1 song, recorded at his homestudio to
have it well mixed.
Starting the song with my LAMP 4.7.3, I had not one of his exs'
instruments showing up, nor could I find them in the exs cockpit,
though I had them on my Logic partition!
Then I started his song with an old version 4.6.1 I had kept on my drive.
Not one of my kits for exs available!
Figured out that all my Akai converted sets had to be reimported in 4.6.1.
The format of the import is different! In 4.7.3 a drum set is
splitted up in several drumgroups, in 4.6.1 the same but there is one
exs instrument playing all drum sounds!
Then, it's not yet finished, the song was mixed, and closing the
Logic songfile, it asked me to save the changes to the
druminstrument, and as I said yes, Logic told me it wasn't possible!
(Wrong path, wrong drive aso.) Reopening the song afterwards, the
instrument wasn't there anymore!

Sorry no answer to the major problem, but if it helps, remember that Mac is
implied in the LA(M)P, rather than the LA(W)P for Windows OS (or LAWG, LAMG,
etc.).

Thanks. My apologies for the oversight. I wish I could help. I am a Mac user
as well, but have never come across such a drastic compatibility problem in
Logic.

Complaint

2001-09-12 by HELP@MusicProTools.com

OK. I have a pretty serious gripe about the EXS (Emagic, are you
listening?), although I remain a fan for the time being (I should mention
though that I'm impressed with the Power of Halion and it's ability to
flawlessly translate Soundfonts which are plentiful on the net.).

I'm very unimpressed with the fact that aliased EXS instruments do not
appear in the drop list. I spent a great deal of time organizing my library
last night, grouping drums in a highly organized fashion. I find it a
timesaver to keep instruments consisting entirely of one type of drum in a
folder. This is not possible on extremely large kits such as my 909X without
separating the instruments tied to a single sample collection which are
kicks, snares, toms, etc. respectively. What I mean to say is, I don't want
to move the "kicks" EXS instrument (for example) to the All Kicks folder,
because then it won't reside with the samples that are related. My witty
answer was to create an alias for the "kicks" residing in the 909 folder and
drop it in the All Kicks folder. Imagine my disappointment when the many
instruments I did this with did not function as I assumed they would. I
thought, perhaps I can trick Logic. I viewed the file/creator codes for the
aliases and they matched the originals. So now I'm left wondering what
criteria Emagic uses to decide with are valid EXS instruments and which are
not. To sum it up, I'm deeply disappointed that this method of organization
can not be done easily. What a drag. It seems this would be very easy to
mend in the next minor update. -Jer
