EXS 24 Loop tempo

2001-10-29 by Livio Tumelero

Hi,

The problem: EXS 24 with a drum loop of 120 bpm. I want to set the tempo of
the loop to 100 bpm and than play it with the EXS 24. Wich is the best way
to do ? (In the EXS 24 Editor window if I click on the E in the sample
window I see Logic Audio window, than I can work with the Time machine).
Thanks and ciao

From John Krogh in this month's Keyboard magazine:

Drag audio region into arrange window. Make sure loop cycles in its
own tempo i.e. start and end points are correct.
Set Cycle start and end points to desired number of bars for audio loop.
From Options>Tempo menu select Adjust Tempo Using Object Length and Locators.
Note new tempo.
Double-click audio region to get to Sample Editor.
ChooseTime and Pitch machine from Factory Window.
In the original tempo column you see loop's current tempo.
In the Destination Column, enter desired tempo.
Click Process and Paste.
Return to Arrange Window and assign new tempo to fit shrunk loop, or
do Adjust Tempo again.

So you don't need EXS if that's all you want to do, but you could
just assign it in EXS at the new tempo.

In addition to this, if you click the E button to edit an EXS24 sample using
logics sample editor, you can effect the sample the same way without having
to use the audio outside of EXS. Very convenient.

I was also playing recently and found that you can 'recycle' your beats
easily too ; just use the E button again and the audio from EXS appears in
Logics audio window. Through the audio window, you can split this into
regions by wave height much the same way that recycle does. Put these regions
back in arrange, and they are locked to the song temp. Change tempo and the
elements of the loop (regions) stay the same relative to one another still.
Very pukka.
