There's a limitation in the current automation scheme in Logic for plugins.
Basically you can only automate CCs 64-127.
These are pseudo-dynamically assigned to your inserts.
Insert #1 = CC 64 - 79
Insert #2 = CC 80 - 85
and so on.

However, if you only have one EXS on an instrument track, you could automate
all possible 54 parameters the EXS has to offer. If you however have a
plugin following in the very next insert, the parameters for Cutoff and
Resonance will be "eaten up" by that plugin.
As a solution you could drag that plugin to a higher numbered insert. Then
you will be able to automate Cutoff/Resonance.

Just if you're interested, here's a list of all available EXS parameters and
how they refer to CCs (internal parameter number / CC number - EXS
parameter):

01/64 - Instrument
02/65 - Edit
03/66 - Options
04/67 - Output Volume
05/68 - Key Scale
06/69 - Pitch Bend (Up)
07/70 - Pitch Bend Down
08/71 - Mono Mode
09/72 - Voices
10/73 - Start Fixed

14/77 - Fine Tune
15/78 - Glide
16/79 - Pitcher
17/80 - Pitcher via Vel
18/81 - Modulation LFO
19/82 - Mod. Depth Fixed
20/83 - Mod. Depth Wheel
21/84 - Filter
22/85 - Filter Type
23/86 - Filter LFO
24/87 - Filter LFO Fixed
25/88 - Filert LFO Wheel
26/89 - Filter Cutoff
27/90 - Filter Resonance

Hey Sascha, thanks for your answer!

I have deleted some plugins form the inserts, and now everything is
working just fine! I am very happy....

Also thanks for the other very 'documented' information, must have
taken you some time to write it...

thanks & bye, Jeroen

I have such lists for all Logic internal plugins, just in case you're
interested:

www.saschafranck.de/CC_Numbers.zip

In addition to the plain text files there's even some HTML document in it so
you can select a plugin in the left frame while its parameters will be shown
in the right one (you gotta unzip everything to one directory).
The numbers and CCs are all valid assuming the plugin is inserted into slot
#1. In case you have them in another slot you will have to add 16 for each
higher slot number.

Regards,
Sascha

I've explained how to get around this a couple times on this list. Create a
splitter, link it to the instrument, and record cutoff and resonance in the
arrange window on the splitter track. You can automate anything this way
that gives you trouble.

Thanks for the very useful info, Sascha (well,
useful for another 3 weeks!!!)

Nah... that won't work if the appropriate CCs are "occupied" by inserts
using them.

Sascha

Ouch. I see. Guess I never used enough inserts to test my assertion. Oh
well.

Anybody know what "level fixed" is, and how it compares to output
volume?

I'm still hunting for what would be the equivalent of "expression",
which I use in my kurz all the time to control dynamics without
changing the midi volume setting.
