Organization of Saved Settings

Organization of Saved Settings

2000-11-22 by philter@mac.com

Hi all.

I was wondering how everyone goes about saving the settings of an EXS
instrument for a particular song.

I know the plug-in will stay 'as is' if you just save the sequence
and reopen it. But I have found that sometimes I'll accidently send
a contoller message that changes something or I open another sequence
with an EXS instrument which alters my settings in some way.

When this happens, if I don't have a way to recall the settings of
that particular instrument, I'm screwed. So I like the idea of being
able to Save Settings As for each intrument for each sequence so I
can always recall the correct settings if something goes awry.

Does anyone else do it this way? Any naming conventions that you
find helpful or other ways to organize it?

One problem I've found is that when you select a setting to recall,
you see the dot next that setting when you look at the list again.
So if you make changes you can update that setting by just
selecting "Save Setting." But when I re-open a sequence the EXS does
NOT know what particular setting it is on (because it just defaults
to whatever it was doing when the song was last saved I guess), but
this means that you first have to go and recall all the instrument
settings first if you want to update (save setting) and not have to
save a new setting (save settings as).

any thoughts?
