scanning instruments

2002-01-23 by renger

Hi,

I ported my AKAi crom sample cd collection to a Firewire drive.
(about 65 Cdroms) and now when Logic (4.81) starts, it is always scanning
EXS24 instruments. OK, with 10 cdrom on HD you hardly notice it, but now it
takes 8 minutes on my 733 Quicksilver!!
Anyone with a trick to stop this?

Try rebuilding your desktop regularly - I have about the same number of CD
roms and it loads in 20-30 seconds....

First of all, set in the preferences of EXS what drive you are using.
Second, you should load all programs once and after that they load very
quickly. I'm not sure whether it's in 4.8.1, but check the EXS
preferences whether you can assign a midi note to "next instrument". If
so, assign one. Then put that note in the arrangement and make a cycle
of 4 bars or so. Let your computer do all the work for you during the
night. The only problem with this system is that when there's a double
sample, EXS will ask you what sample to use... so you should check once
in a while.

I've done it that way and now it's much faster.
Hope this helps.

Joeri, you should be aware of your NDA ;-)
This isn't working in any 4.x version.

Sascha

Hhhmmmmm... what can I say..... shit. :-))) I don't have any 4.x
version anymore, so I couldn't check. I guessed wrong. ;)
Oh well, they've shown it at NAMM, right? :-)
And 5.0 is finished and about to be deliver to the public...so I guess
this is not really an NDA infringement. ;-)

Well folks, you can choose now: delete my mail and act like you never
saw it... or save it and read it in couple of weeks and be happy
because the trick works very well. :-)

Cheers,
Joeri

You didn't get the 4.8.1 that works with the new dongle?

Non Disclosure Agreement (beta testers have to sign it).
Apparently I kind of violated it... and some fellow testers used that to
joke with me... but don't worry, I'll get even... eventually. ;-)

Hi Renger, what is actually taking so long - EXS24 "scanning" the samples
(e.g., building up the instrument list inside the interface), or finding the
appropriate samples once you selected one particular instrument?
I strongly guess your problem is the second one, and to better this you
could try limiting the "search range" where EXS24 looks for the actual
samples to the one drive where you keep them; this is possible in the
settings, look for recent messages with the topic "how to limit exs' "search
range".

Give me one reason why I should still use 4.8.1? When you'll have used
5.0 for 1 hour, you'll never want to go back.
End of discussion from my side, otherwise I'm _really_ infringing my
NDA. :-)) Sorry, I hope you understand.

Max number...

2002-01-23 by Raphaël TIDAS

Hi,
Has anybody the problem of having converted more than 99 akai disks to EXS24
? Logic doesn't seem to love that. He scans at launch. But when trying to
load an instrument in a song ... Logic quits and says "more than a hundred
....".

Any workaround ?

Joeri

I'm very interested in Beta testing, but I don't know how to go about it.

Could you or one of the other beta testers let me know what I need to do?

Thanks

You need to contact one of the "beta tester managers". The only one who posts on the LUG, is Sascha Kujawa. He's one of the guys who manages the Win beta testing. You can ask him. It depends on many things: whether they're looking for someone with the system you have, whether they need testers,... Good luck!

I was a beta tester from V3 until just before V4.5 was released.
I enquired recently and the response I had was 'we arent looking for any
more beta testers at the moment.
Whether that is still the case I have no idea...

In that case....

Sascha,

I am really interested in becoming a beta tester.

I am using a Mac G4 867 single processor, currently running 9.2.2 but with
OSX available if required.

I have used logic for over 8 years and I work on logic more than 80 hours
every week.

Can you let me know what I need to do to take this further if possible.

Sascha reads the LUG, not this list... and I'm not sure whether he's
currently still subscribed. During busy times, he usually unsubscribes.
I suggest you send it to him privately.
