Community Spirit

2002-02-08 by Eli Krantzberg

Hi All,

In the spirit of our little community here, I'd like to offer my own
modest contribution. I am a jazz vibraphone player. A couple of years
ago I sampled my vibraphone (for samplecell at the time). It's a Musser
M-55 and I sampled it with some nice medium hard mallets and a slow
vibrato. It's a Milt Jackson style jazz sound.

I did a couple of different velocity layers and fairly long samples with
no loops. I personally really like thsese samples and use it all the
time (because my vibes are usually in storage with our equipment
transport company, for gigs). I've converted the instrument to EXS
format and it works great.

I'd love to make these multisamples available for all to use. I tried
uploading the files to our site at Yahoo but I got errors each time. The
compressed files are approx 6 megs. Maybe it's too big for yahoo, I
don't know.

But if anyone can make some space available for me to upload it to, I'd
be happy to offer it for all to use.

PS: (I don't know if to refer to this in the singular or plural. It's
one instrument, but several samples) :-)

As with the Akai-EXS conversions, I have a modest 15 meg space but could
leave it up for a long time happily.
I would love a good vibe sample.

Upload it to www.soundcentral.com/incoming (no spaces in the file name,
please). I'll put it up and give everyone the link. I'll put up a special
EXS section. This goes for everyone, if you'd like to put up some stuff.

Don't worry about size - no limit for now, we own the server and can
increase space at will, and currently we are not putting a strain on our
backbone.

I know there were others offering too - whatever is comfortable to you. Or
just give it to everyone.

Hi Garth,

I've had several replies from people offering me a place to upload to. Your
offer sounds like the most practical, seeing as you seem to have a lot of
space. So the size and length of time the files can be available won't be an
issue.

I am on a Mac and so have them in one larg .sit file. Is this okay? If so
I'll upload them asap.

Also, if anyone is interested; they were recorded in stereo with a nice
matched pair of Neuman KM 184's. They're done in a, relatively speaking, wide
stereo image.

Hi Eli,

I also downloaded your vibraphone samples (like so many others). I
have to join in to say, they really sound great. I also very much
appreciate your "community spirit". Thanks!

Thomas
