New Vibes sample upload

New Vibes sample upload

2002-02-09 by elikca

Hi All,

I just converted the audio files to Wav format in Barbabatch. For some
reason it didn't seem to add the .wav extension on to each file name. I
trust it should work as is.

Anyway, I just re-uploaded the new file to Garth's ftp sit. The new
file is called :

M55_Vibes_Wav.sit

I'm leaving here for today. But please let me know if any of you still
have trouble with it. I'll be back here tomorrow, and so can re-convert
and re-upload again if necessary (with minimal pain). I've got PT TDM,
Barbabatch, a fast G4, and high speed connection at my disposal here :-
) And on sunday when ther is lo traffic around her, it's no problem!

What a great vibe sound....

Maybe sometime soon we could hear the very low notes from your vibes....

Thanks again

[blush] thank you very much. If I do say so myself, I am very happy with
these samples. They really are "my sound". As a vibes player, things like
the weight and density of the mallets, the speed of the rotor, attack of the
mallet, etc really personalize a sound. Because when you think about it,
there's no traditional form of "articulation" on a vibraphone. No
"ombechure" (sp?) or "fingering" to help establish a unique sound.

(Traditional) vibraphones are only three ovtaves. They don't normally go
down below F. I assume you are referring to notes lower than that low F. My
samples start at the C above that. Tell you what, next time I have my vibes
at home, I'll sample that last half octave. But I'm not sure when that will
be.

Thanks Eli for the vibes upload, it's very
appreciated ;-) . My only criticism is that I wish
they didn't have vibrato. I appreciate that this
is a very important part of their character, but
the vibrato speed changes when a given sample is
not played in its root key. Perhaps when you have
the time, you can make a 'no vibrato' version...

Hi Ned,

Point taken. Of course when I sampled them, I specifically _wanted_ the vibrato. As far as the speed changing with the transposition; yes it does. But honetly, I find it subtle enough (especailly at
medium or faster tempos) that it doesn't really bother me.

I would be happy to do a sample set with no vibrato. I'm just not certain when I'll have my vibes in my studio next. (Theyr'e in storage for transport with our other gear for gigs).

But I'll do it eventually.

A) Eli, many thanks, seems to sound really great!

B) For those of you downloading the wav version, as the instrument patch
isn't updated, it won't find the samples. If you don't like reloading and
readjusting zones, I updated the patch, here it is:

Thanks so much for doing this. I was wondering if the conversion would
effect the instrument being able to find the samples. Unfotunately, it
did:-(

Well, defenitely not yours but an EXS fault. It should offer some
alternatives rather than only giving a "continue" button which won't lead
you anywhere.

Sascha

When you do, you might also want to do another vibrato set, but with every
bar sampled. With sampler bank size not much of an issue anymore, this
would eliminate the vibrato speed change issue while preserving the
un-reproduceable (not perfectly, anyway) mechanical vibrato sound.

An excellent suggestion. This would be a tremendous value and constitute a
very high-caliber sample set. I suspect I would like the original vibrato as
well, and sampling every key is the perfect solution!

I love them! I use vibes in many of my songs. What a great sounding
instrument . .and your samples capture it very nicely. Permanantly
renamed as "Eli's Vibes" on my system.

thanks man!

Goopd point. I _did_ originally do it in the context of a 32 meg samplecell
card.

I guess I'll have to get my vibes back here sooner rather than later :-)

It _would_ be huge sampleset though.
