Re: [exs]latency

I would like to hear what other folks system's are, and the amount of
lag/latency they are experiencing. I have a p2-300 gina card driver vers.
5.01. I now have 512meg of ram. I still have a bit of lag....as if the
samples have a short fade in....will this go away once I get a p3?

Your system has to be strong for software synthesis but it is still not the
dominating factor controlling latency. The problem is the PCI interface of
your soundcard and the drivers that work with it. If you are using an ASIO
driver then this information may help http://www.kvr-vst.com/asiolist.htm
. If not then you will be using EASI, DirectSound, or MME drivers. Even
though EASI is supposed to be Emagic's competitor to ASIO real world tests
show noone has achieved low latency from the information available from
card manufacturers. I have written for an explanation from Emagic and have
recieved no response. Their website will also offer no help choosing a low
latency card based on their driver. Directsound can have a fairly low
latency. This is usually found on cheap soundcards. I would guess that
the reason a soundblaster can get low latency is the money they have to
invest for driver development. MME is the most common driver on semipro
soundcards. This driver has a HIGH latency. MME is not very efficient.
It is just easy to write a driver for it. Hope this helps. If anyone has
more information please post.

Agree - it seems like the only drivers that work without latency is the
ASIO drivers..
I use them and have fairly none latency...
