SOT: LAWP/Audiowerk 8/2 hum problem

SOT: LAWP/Audiowerk 8/2 hum problem

2002-03-22 by dbenus

Hello,

I am having a ground hum problem with my Audiowerk 8 and Audiowerk
cards. We've lifted all grounds from all equipment with 3 prong
adaptors, removed all other imputs from our Mackie 1604 VLZ Pro
mixer, and have determined that the audio cards are causing the hum.
We've tried different cables, swapped the Audiowerk 8 out for the
Audiowerk 2, and the hum always comes from the sound cards. When we
disconnect the card's RCA cables from the mixer, the hum stops.

Has anybody had any similar experieinces with this problem?
Any suggestions, solutions.

Thanks,
David Benus

I seem to remember a thread on this on the main LUG when the cards
first came out, and the solution had something to do with internal
grounding in the Mac. You are using the screws to connect it to the
chassis, are you? I dredged this up from years ago. Regards Brian

At the bottom of the card is a point at which the shielding meets
the metal frame which is attached to the front of the card. Now the
bottom of this metal frame was slightly bent away from the card and
was not making contact with the shielding. I bent the frame back so
it was making contact and put the card back in the Mac......No Noise!
Once again if I turn my gains to max then I can hear a little
rubbish, but if there was actual signal present at this level my
speaker cones would travel across the room. At normal levels it's
totally quiet.
