Pro Samples - any good?

Pro Samples - any good?

2002-05-05 by don1thedon

Any EXS users tried the Pro samples series? They seem to be a
bargain at £29.95, but as they are compiled from previous releases
I'm not sure whether they may be a bit dated and might leave you
wanting for more??
Opinions please
Thanks
Don

Don, I think they are good value, but be prepared that not all
instruments, sounds or loops are on a specific sample CD. E.g. I bought
Classic Orchestra and disovered that brass was absent. Strings and some
woodwind are fine though. But most of the phrases they included (on
Choirs, Cl. Orchestra) are not very usefull to me. With the percussive
CD's you get a full bpm range of loops and some single shots. As I'm
told you can upgrade to the full versions easily. Contact me off line
should you have a specific question about one of the volumes 4,6,11,13
or 19. Regards, Herbert

I have a copy of Volume 23, the Trip-Hop collection. It's okay. The EXS banks aren't very well laid out, and there are too many "riff samples" for my tastes. The Rhodes samples (I bought this before the EVP88 was released) are hardly usable; the guitars and scratching are nothing to write home about either.

If you want a bargain on lots of samples, check out http://www.primesounds.com. While most of their content is loops of some sort or another, there's still lots of good material, and I am of the philosophy that loops are meant to be chopped into small little pieces.
