I put together a crazy great portable system for my powerbook using
  - Midiman USB Midisport interface (runs off of USB power)
  - Yamaha CBXK1
For a description of the yamaha keyboard see
http://www.zzounds.com/love.music?p=p.YAMCBXK1&z=956249428256

However zzounds won't have it in stock. They're hard to find in
stock, but persevere, because $150 gets you:

  - MIDI (duh)
  - battery powered. mine's been running on it's AA's for about 150
hours, should go much longer.
  - 3 complete octaves of "mini" keys. Bad if you have largish
fingers. Great if you have small fingers like me
  - TOUCH SENSITIVE!
  - pitch bend, and mod wheel
  - easy octave transpose button
  - 20 inches long & light. This fits in my backpack with my
powerbook, adapter, cables, everything

Enjoy,
-canton

I have the same CBX-K1, but I note there is no longer any reference to
it on any yamaha website. Is it out of production ? I had to order mine
from my local music store, the demand for them isn't great., but it's a
very handy bit of kit.

Just ordered one of these babies (from zZounds--they're supposed to ship on
Feb 15). Thanks again for the tip!
