[LUG] [GEN] EXS Menu tip
2002-06-12 by Hendrik Jan Veenstra
If you're like me, you hate having menus nested 5 deep -- esp. with those small fonts, risk of missing the right spot and having to start all over again, etc (can you spell "RSI"?). OTOH, creating 'flat' menus tends to create single menus with maybe 50-100 or more Sampler Instrument entries, which also isn't very convenient. I just discovered that copying a small .exs file and renaming it to "-.exs" will create a divider in the menu (on Mac -- don't know if this is system specific). You could thus add a space in front of the most used Instruments (like "complete crash cymbal layout.exs") to move them to the top of the menu, then insert a -.exs divider, and have all the rest (e.g. individual crash cymbals) below that. Visually very satisfying :). In order to make dividers at random places, rename a small .exs file to e.g. "f------------.exs" to split the list between a-e and f-z. Doesn't yield a true divider, and isn't as pretty as the -.exs, but it's more flexible and at least gives some visual clue... And, AFAIC, it sure beats having to navigate 5 levels of sub-menus... Oh well... maybe nobody cares... or everybody already knew this... -- Hendrik Jan Veenstra <h@...> Omega Art: http://www.ision.nl/users/h/index.html
