Our understanding is that Apple cannot put > the "Magic" code in their OS's, because Bill Gates has a patent on it. =) The magic player is not just a player, it's a bulk player. Select anything: an Akai disc, a couple of Roland volumes, a folder full of Giga files or even audio files, click on the magic player icon and CDXtract will play them one after each other without any user interaction, like magic. > OK, enough funniness. Translator does have a player, no difference I disagree, Translator has a basic player that can play only forward loops and doesn't play independent loop points. So for example when I preview some samples from the Distorted Reality disc with Translator they don't sound like when I play them on my S760. CDXtract has a real time player capable of playing independent left and right loop points with all kind of loops: forward, reverse and alternate. It sounds exactly like the S760. > I do want to catch up on what was discussed a couple months ago about > Roland Deemphasis and the programs in question. When we say EXACT we mean that it is Roland's code, not ours. > What is in Translator is the same processing routine as what is in the > software of the Roland S-7x series and others. That's correct they are differences. The main reason is that the "Enable de-emphasis filter" in Translator has absolutely no effect on the conversion (at least on windows). When you convert one Roland sample with the de-emphasis activated and deactivated you get exactly the same result, and I'm speaking about a binary comparison here, not my ears. I have tried a lot of times with several formats that uses independent wav files like Halion or EXS24. Maybe this is a limitation of the demo version but I don't think so because I clearly saw "de-emphasizing sample" during the conversion. I finally found a way to make this authentic de-emphasis filter work, I had tu use the audio processor. This seems to be the only way to make that de-emphasis work. But I'm afraid your authentic filter is not exact, you can find the results of all my tests here: www.cdxtract.com/roland.php Don't make me wrong, I trust you when you say that you have the Roland's code but I think there was an error somewhere in its implementation. Actually I know exactly what error you made and I can help you fix that error or give you my de-emphasis algo wich I think is faster. I don't have the Roland's code but CDXtract has the exact de-emphasis filter and anybody who has a S760 can easily verify it with the explanation given on the above web page. Bernard BTW the demos of CDXtract 4 PC/MAC are online.
