Re: [exs] EXS24, Halion or Kontakt for orchestral sounds ?

I am using a P4 with 2.2a and 1 Gb of Ram. I am using mostly
orchestral instruments (like Miroslav on Akai etc...)and I like a
software that has the minimum of bugs and a good integration with
Emagic. Quality of translated sounds is also important.

Thank you in advance for all your answers !

For orchestral the most important things is the "POLYPHONY"...
This Polyphony will decrease if the sampler VSTi use too many CPU..
the best choice will be to choose the lowest CPU sampler user ;o)

Halion can have some good features because it reads Giga Dimensions ...
Kontakt seems to be a little more CPU "hungry" than Halion

EXS24 is the lowest CPU user but maybe u'r afraid because u'r on PC ...
even with Logic 5.2, exs24 can be a good choice...

Herge,

EXS is easy to learn, integrates perfectly in
Logic, sounds great and uses very little cpu
(great if you need to sound like an 18-piece
ensemble). If you're not planning to do much
experimentation and/or transformations of your
samples, then it's perfect. I can't speak about
Halion, except that I've read that the interface
is a bit complicated or not well laid out. It does
a few things that EXS won't do, but I also have
read that it's not crash-proof. Kontakt looks
amazing (I'm on Mac, and it's only for PC for
now), offer more in terms of manipulating your
samples (more filters, for eg), but it takes up
more crunching power, so you are more limited in
terms of orchestration. As well, it doesn't stream
from your hard-disk (EXS does, Halion?), so you'll
need plenty or RAM. One other thing to consider:
(at this point in time) only Halion can import
Giga-format samples. Which brings me to my next
suggestion: Have you thought of GigaSampler? You
can read users' comments here, in the 'forum'
section: http://www.northernsounds.com/

Good luck.

But did you manage to get the release samples imported?

Nope here.

I´ve only tried some free banks from the net. Maybe the release
samples are special.
