sustain while recording to Logic

Hi - can anyone tell me how to record an EXS patch as an audio instrument into Logic 4.8 and get the sustain info as well? When I record a piano patch while using my sustain pedal, it does not record that way. I could record as an audio track, but am interested to see if I can do it the audio instrument way...do I need to edit the patch? ET
