I understand the idea....and hate to be a party pooper, but this is illegal
to distribute.

You're kidding. I thought this was true of only sample-based sound
libraries.

Wait, now I know my confusion. It's ok for me to synthesize my own sounds,
sample them and distribute the libraries. I did this with a Moog Rogue years
back. Now I see the distinction.

ok, so, to eradicate any confusion on my behalf. there is, or should not be,
any exs version of the jv1080 around?

Nope...anything based on sound recordings (ie; any sample-based instruments)
is off limits. Same discussion as we had regarding "The Grand".

Roland goes after people quite a bit for this. If you want to sample anything
from a Roland sample based instrument, you have to obtain a special license
from them. Depending on what it is, they can be pretty cool about it actually.

Not legally.

Apart from the legality of using samples of the JV-1080, I reckon it'd
be a forking HUGE job for the EXS to do what the 1080 does. Up to 4
tones per patch, each with pitch/filter/amplitude EGs,
random/alternate/note#-controlled panning, cross-modulation, etc.etc.etc.

I once started to think about the possibility and gave up after a few seconds.

Get Sonic Synth for SampleTank. Good Reviews at KVR-VST. Similar to the 1080
apparently.
