Next Instrument Looping

Next Instrument Looping

2002-08-25 by exsmailinglist

Greetings, I am a long time lurker of this list, trying out your
awesome suggeston, but running into problems.

Just tried setting up the "next instrument" loop in EXS to convert a
bunch of .gig samples for the first time. I set up the notes C1 for
prev exs inst, and D1 for next exs inst. Everytime --I-- press D1 it
goes to the next patch just fine, but when I record a small sequence
with D1 in it, and loop it, EXS plays the note D1. It never goes to
the next patch.

This is in 5.2 for Windows. Is this looping trick only available for
Macs? Or was this trick broken in 5.2? Since I am on Windows and can
use EXS Manager I have never had a need to do this before, so I'm
not sure if this worked in 5.1.3 etc or not for me.

The sequence with D1 in it, is placed on the Audio Inst 1 track,
which is where I have the only copy of EXS instanciated. The
AudioInst is set to "Midi Ch: ALL". Do I need to record D1 to a MIDI
track and cable that to the AudioInst 1 track or something? I will
try doing so now but I would appreciate any help you are willing to
give on this matter. I can always sit here and hit D1 over and over
and over again but I have better things to do if possible.

Best regards!!!
Thomas

What you describe should work... How about using some controller
instead of a note? That's the 1st thing I would try... I did that
(in LAMP 5) and it worked flawlessly. Just use something obscuree,
like controller 100/101 or so.

Another thought that might be slightly easier -- try assigning a
regular keyboard command to Next Instrument. Just set something heavy
on your keyboard to hold that key down. :-)

i'm not too sure if this wouldnt overdoze the "next instrument" on the exs.

i used prg1 for next intrument and it worked right from the start.
