146 Cds converted
2001-02-04 by Markus Seiser
Hi! I have now completed the conversion of 146 cds, most of them Akai, a few EMU 4, using CDxtract 3.4.2. It resulted in almost 199.000 wav files, using about 56 gigs of space. 9063 files are duplicates with the same name, 2797 with same name and size. So 6266 samples are name duplicates from different cd sets. Most of the duplicates are coming from multiple usage in several cds of sound sets like Kirk Hunter Strings, Liquid Grooves etc. CDxtract does save all .wav of one cd in one folder, which is an advantage concerning space usage over the internal converter in most cases, cause many cds are using the same samples over and over again, eg Kirk Hunter Strings CD3 is only ~150 MB in my folder, it would have resulted in about 400MB using the internal converter. But there are exclusions: A handful of Cds are using the same sample names multiple times, but the files are different ones: Percussion Slam and Johnny C's Vintage & Custom Snare Drums are examples which get destroyed by using CDxtract cause it overwrites the same named samples. With some cds like Funk Bass, VP-1, Total Piano etc. CDxtract is creating both -L/-R wavs and stereo wavs, which results in wasted space. These are my findinds for the moment, I'll have to take a closer look at the accuracy of the conversions. Now I'm just waiting for 4.7. May someone give me a beta!? ;) Markus
