I have tried converting three hollow sun instrument sets with CD Extract
3.6 r.4 and with one of them it did not work well either. It was with the
Dance Saw instrument set in the Roland section. The resulting four
instruments in the set had, for no apparent reason, zones that overlapped
for a few keys at their edges, causing volume increases and tonal
inconsistencies. This could not have been for velocity layering or detuning
as they would then have to have been _completely_ overlapped. Either the
source .akp instrument was badly made or (more likely I think) there was a
zone ('keygroup' in akai-speak) crossfade feature in the 5000/6000 where
they overlapped. I have a S3000XL (which does not have this feature) not a
5000/6000 so I cannot be sure. If this feature does exist in the 5000/6000
then it is possible that CD Extract does not remove the overlaps where the
source .akp files have keygroups that were cross-faded.
It may be easier just to build exs instruments with the samples. This also
allows you to use settings from other existing instruments which can then be
saved to the new instrument.
