Hi all
Even though this post is from Mac-based users, here´s a view from a
PC world (Sadly I´m hanging with my trusty PC, until I have to find
the extra money for a Mac. Once again, Emagic/Apple, return to PC
platform!)
Just finished converting the Advanced Orchestra full Giga set to EXS
mk II (I´m on PC, Logic Plat 5.5.1). Here are some of my thoughts:
-The naming of the patches seems to be the key problem. If the names
of the extracted Giga files are too long, EXS might make only one or
some the options available (KEY XFD, KEY or KEY-E), although
according to manual they should be present. This could be solved by
giving shorter names to the files themselves in the programming stage
(but not AKAI short, if I may suggest). So anyone at Best Service
reading this, please react/respond. I´ll mail them this message too.
-Due to the EXS way of working with the crossfading of
groups/samples, I decided to do only the KEY patches
-Still, if all the names appear to be present, some of the programs
still lack some samples. The samples themselves seem to be included
after the conversion, but in a couple of programs I had to manually
add them. And this of course stupid, because then I´m left without
the looping information and other possible extras (tuning etc.) This
happened in following instruments:
Contrabass KEY
English horn solo KEY
Piccolo flute solo KEY
-The keyswitching feature works fine, yes , but at least in PC it is
NOT translated automatically by EXS. A LOT of work to be done
manually (at least couple of days for me, maybe I´m slow?).
-Some extra samples called "zero stereo.wav" are in many of the
instruments. As the name suggests, the sample is totally, digitally
silent and apparently does nothing, at least in EXS world. Straight
to trash.
-Some samples seem to be also totally missing, nothing too important
though.
Sorry about the lengthy post, I decided to share this if anytbody has
some thoughts on this. And if somebody has any tricks concerning this
particular library with EXS, I´d be glad to hear from You.
