New member wondering if he can get help.

2002-11-14 by Bryan W.G. Reid

Hi,

I am having a problem with the new version of Logic Audio on OS 10.2.2.
I can't seem to gain access to all of the sounds I used to have on my
EXS24 in the old OS. They just disappeared! Where can I find these
sounds?

To be more "OS X" like, eMagic moved the location of the Logic
executables in LogicX. They are now in the Application folder in a
folder called eMagic Platform or something like that.

The old 9.x executables are probably in a folder called eMagic or
something right off the root of your hard drive.

As we all know, everything that plugs into logic has to be in a folder
on the same level as the executable. Since the executable has moved,
that means you have to move your support folders too. You'll find all
your EXS intruments in the EXS intrument folder off the root of your
hard drive (or wherever you originally installed Logic). Move those
folders to the new location of the Logic executable
(/Applications/eMagic/Logic) and your instuments will show up again.

If you are still going to be going back and forth between 9.x and X and
don't want to keep copying folders all the time, you can just make an
alias and move that into the new Logic folder.

Reading back over this, it doesn't make much sense. If I've confused
you, write back and I'll try to be more explicite.

cheers,

Well, they are in the "old" Emagic folder. (were you using OS 9?).

If so, you need to "point" to the old sample instruments folder - use
an alias under OS X.

Alternately, of course, you could copy the old instruments into the
new sampler instruments folder.

In OS X, search for Emagic and you will find the old Logic Audio folder.

Aron,

I copied all of the .aif files from the old (OS9) EXsamples folder
into the new (OSX) sampler instruments folder. Still there is no
response. I looked in the old sampler instruments folder and there was
nothing there. I assume that there are supposed to be some .exs files
somewhere on my computer to make the EXS24 work but I can't find any
anywhere! How do I go about getting these samples back if they were
somehow erased?

At this point, use the find command in OS X to find those .exs files.

Very strange that they are not there!

Thoughts from the mind of Bryan W.G.Reid, 14-11-2002:

The samples themselves (the aiff's) can reside _anywhere_ on your
harddisk, No need to move them. Only the *.exs files need to be in
the Sampler Instruments folder.

'Find' (command-F) ".exs"...

>How do I go about getting these samples back if they were somehow erased?

.exs files are not samples, but simply files that describe to the EXS
which samples should be loaded whrer, which filter to apply, etc.

Now THAT is strange.

Reinstall.

However, if you added new ones yourself, you will have to find where
you got them and place them yourself.

Good luck,
