RE: New to EXS

Hi All,
I want to thank all of you for replying to me, both publically and privately, about my problems and unhappiness with EXS24. I will go over all of your posts carefully and then get back to you. I do feel better now.

Some of you are suggesting that I, to cover for the time being, purchase a used sound module, say Roland JV-2080.
In class they use the "Cadillac," the Roland XV-5080. They also use a Korg (I will have to look up its model number---it is no longer "in print"). Although I loooove the Roland sounds, do you think it would be sufficient to try to get a used Korg. The Korg is only about the size of a cigar box, so I could easily stick it in my back pack and take it to and from class with me. I have to go out of town for two days, but when I get back, I will look up the Korg number, and get back to you.

Thank you again for all of your help!

Sara Steele in New Jersey

PS Right now, sounds aside, I am busying myself with learning to deal with the Logic 5---doing things (which for most of you are probably elementary) like putting on fermatas and ritards, time sig and tempo and key changes, and level adjustments througout the piece. Much, much to learn. And, I can learn all this stuff with my "motley crew". I am going to have Logic questions for you all, I am sure.

If you¹re going to be doing a lot of printed notation, I would also highly
recommend ŒThe Logic Notation Guide¹ by Johannes Prischl. I don¹t know if he
has done any updates to include v5.X, but a very good notation companion.
Try johannes.prischl@... or http://members.aon.at/prischl

You might want to also check out the logic-users@yahoogroups.com (what the
heck, your already signed up for yahoogroups already). It has a lot more
daily traffic to sift through, but some (more) very helpful people there as
well.

Regards,

    Shane

the SD-20s from Roland/Edirol are even smaller than that, and have a
good range of basic (GM, GM2, SoundCanvas) sounds. And you can use USB
or serial to connect, so it has a better chance of working with your
school's lagacy stuff.

New to EXS

2004-02-13 by rayoflife

Hi everyone. I just started using Exs24 on a g5 with logic 6.0
platinum. But I 'm working with my colleague's library and I only
have an EXS manual in German!!! I just couldn't figure out how
Exs reads samples from where and program files from where. I 've
looked for any pdf files about Exs24 on the net but couldn't
find. I convert lot of my old sample library from any format to
Exs format but I don't know how I will be able to use them in
EXs. Any info about the system it uses( I mean which folder it
gets the samples, which folder it gets the prog files, is it
possible to load samples from cd from... ) will be very very
appreciated. Or you may just send me urls where I can find PDFS
in ENGLISH.
Thanx in advance.

Very short: the instrument files (*.exs) go in the Sampler
Instruments folder which should already exist in your Logic
application folder. The samples themselves (wav, aiff, sd2) can be
stored anywhere on your system.

The 1st trime the EXS loads a program, it scans your system for the
proper samples, which might take a while. Then it writes the
absolute filepath in the .exs file, so that next time you load the
same program, it loads much faster.

Note that the EXS isn't very clever when it comes to using different
samples with the same name, of different programs with the same name.
So try not to have 2 samples called "kick.aiff", or 2 programs called
"rock kit.exs".

You load an EXS program by clicking on the big black field between
the Edit and Option buttons in the EXS main interface. In order to
create your own EXS program, click the Edit button to open the
Instrument Editor. The EXS uses Zones, each of which contains one
sample and spans a certain section of the keyboard. Zones can be
grouped in Groups, which allows you to e.g. adjust dynamics or
polyphony for an entire set of samples simultaneously.

New to EXS

2005-12-26 by Jr

Hi i'm a new logic 7 user and i'm having problems loading the exs samples in my logic
session. I'm using a Mac G4 Powerbook with OSX Panther. For some reason, the samples
won't load. I can locate the folder thru "Finder" but when logic attempts to look for the
samples, it can't find them.

Strangely enough, some times the EXS Samples folder is there, and sometimes it's not
there. I tried copying the folder, and moving it to the local logic folder--nothing works.

Anyone encounter this problem?

I'd appreciate any help you guys can give me. Apple is no help.

Thanks

Selwyn.

P.S. I have Logic 7 and Protools LE on the same machine. When I launch Protools I do get
an error message regarding the EXS Sampler.

The samples folderr can be anywhere, the folder with the EXS instruments
should be in Library/Application Support/Logic

Thanks for responding Pete. I located the file path you mentioned. I can go to the folder
and play each sample through Quicktime. However, Logic still seems unable to load the
files. I have 1GB of Ram and 17GB of space left on my hard drive so it can't be a memory
issue. Any suggestions?
