Popping on Sample Playback- Advice?

Popping on Sample Playback- Advice?

2003-02-20 by Slave Audio

Hi. I have a G4 1.25 (old model) w/ 1GB RAM with a RME Hammerfall
9652, Logic 5,5 OS 9 and a dedicated sample hard drive.

When I play samples from the EXS, I get crackles and pops. When I
bounce an EXS track, I see digital errors on the waveform; the waveform
drops off in a square at each pop and click. Right now I can't use my
EXS!!!

I hope someone can help because I'm paralyzed.

Thank you,
Min

Check the individual sample files in the audio editor.
Click the small "E" in the Zone box.
If you find the errors and "little squares", edit them out as best you can
and/or change the start point.

Does it happen with all your EXS Instruments or just that one?

For now you could bounce in OSX in import the audio in 9....??

are you using more than one audio card?- I used to use an AudioWerk for
samples and a MOTU 828 for audio but even when correctly configured with
spdf there was popping and cracking- maybe that helps-David

Hi Patrick, thanks for the reply. I have checked the samples out.
They're AOK. I've also tried
Moving the start and end points around, and made sure that the waves end
on zero crossing.
No luck. I have the feeling that this is a Logic internal
synchronization issue. I get the popping
Regardless of my hammerfall latency, even when the card is clocking off
of itself. One more thing,
I don't get popping in OSX! Of course, I can't work in OSX though
because I need VST plugs. So I think
This is software related. Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Min

This happens on about half of my instruments, most of which are from the
EXSgroup files. It's actually definetly not the samples because I get
popping
Audibly and on the recorded waveform even if I engage a LPF and cut off
all the highs.

Only one audio card. It's an RME Hammerfall 9652. I hope it's just a
setting I'm overlooking.
