EXS 24 Logic Sampler Users Group

Can someone explain what "Direct I/O" means with the Digidesign 001 
and Logic Platinum Windows?  Does it mean LAWP detects it and has 
direct communication like it does with the Audiowerk? 

I want to use the EX24 sampler and want the best performance.  I need 
8 analog ins/outs, so its either Delta 1010, Layla, or Digi001.  
Digi001 is the only card with Direct I/O, so I'm assuming that means 
better performance?
