Logic 4.7

2001-03-25 by Nick Gold

According to an Emagic employee (head of Mac development) who posted on
Logic-users, the Logic 4.7 update that probably most of us have been waiting
months for ought to be out by this coming Friday. Emagic decided to put a
whole new MIDI engine into 4.7, which was originally supposed to go in 5.0
only. So I guess it's good that we waited. :)

The Holy Grail of Drum Samples????

2001-03-25 by Mike Newman

Any opinions on top notch/no compromise drum sample (kits) libraries to use
with either a K2600R (Kurzweil format) or EXS24 (Akaiformat).

I have "Total Stereo Session Drums" and Double Platinum Drums (loops are
great), both of which I don't l really like the Kits much.

For the most part I'm looking for drum samples that would work well for Pop,
Rock and Country, but I would also like to find techno/dance samples.

I'm looking for the "BEST" drum samples available. For Orchestra there is
"Miroslav Vitous Symphonic Orchestra Master Set" $4000. For Brass there
Quantum Leap Brass $700, For Choir and Vocal there is Symphony of Voices
$499 and Vocal Planet $399, etc....... Is there a Drum library that is in
the same league, the holy grail of drum samples?

Thanks

I have heard quite a lot of Drum Smples and personally I really dont
think Bob Clearmountains drums are any good at all, in fact i took
them off my computer.
The Akai mega drums for example are a lot better (for Power drums),
even the Peter Erskin kit is pretty good (for jazzy drums)basically I
have heard heaps that are better then the Clearmountain drums, dont
waste your money on them.

By a clear margin, the best drum samples of acoustic drums I have ever heard
are the 24 bit stereo sampled Wizzoo kits that ship with the LM4. As a guy
who sits in a studio making music at least 6 days a week, when I first heard
them it was like a revelation in terms of realism, imaging and clarity.

With the increasing popularity of softsamplers like EXS24 etc... Library
makers should really consider a CD rom format for delivering their samples
so one can take full advantage of the full 24 bits if their software/
hardware allows.
