Yes it is available in Logic OSX 6.1, CDXtract is the only other choice
under OSX. The internal converter is good and reliable, the advantage of
using CDXtract is that it is way faster than any other converter, moreover
it has some cool functions that you can use to create new multi-layered EXS
instruments (velocity stacking, controller switch and even modulation
crossfade). You can try the demo at www.cdxtract.com/demo4.php

Thanks Garth. I'm switching over to Logic 6 and EXS24 from DP3 and
Sample Tank and translating that many "original, genuine CD's" that I
purchased and have the license for (noted just for dufus in case he has
any more helpful advice) took ALOT of time and very often had
"glitches" which meant re-translating with the next update of ST's
translator. Since I don't own any other "original, genuine CD's" in
any other formats (only Akai) I was wondering if the Akai translations
of CD-Xtract and Translator would be any "better" than that built into
EXS24 OSX. (I use this with original, genuine Logic 6 software on a
original, genuine G4 1.42 Ghz).

Thanks
Mike

Not exactly correct. Just to clear this up, Translator OSX has been
available (not officially released) for quite awhile. Registered owners and
new owners get it in their installations or update files. It's not
officially released because there's still some detailed things that affect
some users operation we want to look hard at. However, if I remember right,
the Akai->EXS tests went smoothly.

So he is correct in one sense but not the other, I suppose is a semantic
thing. I answered Mike originally that way because I know he owns
Translator. Perhaps I should have specified that in my post.

So all the EXS convertors are AVAILABLE on OSX, which is a good thing.

Sorry but it's just the opposite, CDXtract is the only converter available
on OSX, it has been released more than 2 months ago and have the same
features than the other versions on Windows and OS9.
CDXtract is usually better than the EXS internal convertor because this is
its main goal. Emagic cannot spend the same amount of time than me just on
the conversion part. Moreover I'm more likely to answer quickly and send you
a patch if you encounter any problem. If you have a lot of Akai CDs or Iso
images then CDXtract is also the best choice because it will convert them
way faster than the internal converter. Last point, CDXtract includes a
database that could be very useful for someone like you who own a lot of
disks. I suggest that before converting each disk, you add them in the
database (it takes just about 1 minute) and you will then be able to search
for any specific sample or program in all your sampler library.

Hope this helps,
Bernard

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
