One fine day Mark said: > 1) When a drum loop is sampled, how do they stretch it to be the > tempo THEY want for their song as opposed to being forced to use the > tempo it was originally sampled at? There are a few ways... Here's some links that will give a few sources of information: STRIP SILENCE http://www.emagic.de/support/tipsNtricks/loops.php?lang=EN Works a bit like phatpro, without the synthesis & FX, but you can use LOGIC/Plugins for that. It's not quick but very exact. Or you could use Phatpro for dissecting and isolating parts of loops. You can also try using EQ, make 2/3 copies of your loop file, EQ one for Kick and the other for Hats, or isolate the Kick groove and overdub your own played H/Hats, if you can do it this sounds great... You gotta dance with it though. : ) > The Virtual Instrument called Culture from Yellow Tools > offers a lot and because it's 100% instruments as opposed to some > intrsument, some loops, you probably get more value for your money. I have tried Yellow Tools Culture but was also impressed by ethnoshere It works in Logic and sounds great, IMHO, a little better and only $69 http://www.soundburst.com/ethnosphere.html AND if you can do some of your own percussion as well, say 50/50, this creates a groovin mix of machine & human. (Apologies if getting a little OT with this) Have you had a look at xphraze? You can use it almost immediately, it's like a 4 track, create grooves, basses, leads, pads, has synthesis and effects, syncs to your track...you can also use your own samples. Quite a complicated piece of kit. Ohmboyz - FX are great for Drums, I especially love Predatohm. So not to get too OT... THE EXS24 I'm still coming to grips with it's full functionality, if someone would put out a book on TIPS & TRICKS and using it with examples...this would certainly help me. During my research for Tips and Ideas I have found many varied sources over the net. It's hard to keep tabs on everything I got here, either on Hard drive, in Word, PDF, I also print-out just about everything for hard copy reading, I have volumes of notes. It would be nice to be able to offer all this info, ie publish it, but as I am not the originator...I'm not sure HOW or WHAT I can offer. There is a FAQ downloadable from the LIST but not all I got relates to the EXS24. In saying all that... Perhaps someone here reading this list is in the process of producing (a book) on DRUM TIPS? Anyone?... Or if not I may put up my hand and do it. Maybe we can all pull together and share the knowledge we have. The list is a great QUICK fix but it would be nice to have certain areas of Production in a complete, and of course growing, online format. As the OT list seems a little thin at present if you want to email me direct on things unrelated to the EX24, please do so and perhaps I may have some answers, if not, as a joint effort they can be found. midimantra
