Sample/audio file backup?

Sample/audio file backup?

2003-06-16 by vadan9hu

Hi:

I will be purchasing the EXS24 mk II sampler soon so I don't have any
experience with it yet. I'm contemplating buying the 750 MB Zip Drive
as another back up of audio files and samples (CD-R being the other).

I've used Zip technology for years. Is the 750 MB as stable as past
drives?

What are the sizes of samples in general? I read about someone with 9
GB of samples ready to burn to DVD. I know there are a lot of samples
to convert. I have an EMU collection on CDs to convert. Any advice on
how to think ahead on managing back up of the sample library, project
management of audio files, etc. Is it worth it to buy the ZIP 750 MB,
nearly the same size as CD-R? I want multiple back ups.

What are you folks doing?

Thanks.

External Firewire hard disks are relatively inexpensive now...

Big firewire drive is the best way to go. I have 16 gig of samples, and
that is only the best of the libraries I have

Thank you for your reply.

Is this drive purely for backup? Is this drive powered down most of
the time? What size (GB) is it - what do you consider Big Firewire drive?

Do you have these 16 gig of samples backed up somewhere else?

I would imagine that while working with a project you would load
whatever samples you want to use from the 16 gb group and have those
on your HD. Correct?

What is the best way for me to convert the EMU sample CDs to the EXS24
format?

Have you purchased most of those samples? I'm looking for
recommendations. I know some are free and that's the best place to start.

Thanks, George.
